I am a business colleague of Luther Perkins and have been for the past seven years. I am also a Managing Director for Cherokee & Walker, an investment company located in Salt Lake City, Utah. Approximately seven years ago, I was referred to Mr. Perkins by a mutual acquaintance. We were looking for a President/CEO to run a start-up company in which we had just made a sizable investment. We were looking for someone that we felt had the experience, tenacity, skills and leadership abilities to handle the challenges of a start-up or early stage company. Over the years, I have realized that not only does Mr. Perkins possess the foregoing qualities, but he possesses many other qualities and characteristics that have helped him achieve success in whatever he has done.
One of the things that caught our attention with Mr. Perkins was his track record of helping grow small and emerging companies. Throughout his career, he has demonstrated a unique ability to generate significant growth in diverse market segments: real estate, retail, commercial and technology. It was amazing to see Mr. Perkins step into a company whose only customers were a couple of small taxi cab companies in Las Vegas to a customer list which included: British Petroleum, ATK, Nationwide Insurance, Nascar, Halliburton to name a few. As demonstrated by this impressive customer list, Mr. Perkins is very capable of and understands the value of strategic selling to large accounts. He has the unique ability to work with key people at the highest level of an organization and help them to see the vision of the product or service he has to offer.
Mr. Perkins understands the importance of having a strong strategic vision and the need to always work towards that vision, rather than just reacting to whatever comes his way. At Independent Witness, he identified early on that although they had some good technology, what really matter was whether they could get the market to embrace it. Although it was not easy and took time and resources, he was able to build upon the core technology and create a world class technology offering.
While all of these practical skills are important to the success of any business, what is most impressive to me about Mr. Perkins are his less quantifiable characteristics: leadership, integrity, strong work ethic; his ability to be a team player; his professionalism and his forthrightness. I always know where I stand with Mr. Perkins; I always know that he is giving his maximum effort; and I always know I am getting the straight story. I have the highest respect for Mr. Perkins and can recommend him without qualification; I am confident that he will be an asset and add value to any organization.
